Summer employment with the Hamlet allows students to develop their skills and gain meaningful employment from June through to August of each year. It also provides students an opportunity to learn about serving the community in which they live.

The Municipality of Clyde River requires a qualified Senior Administrative Officer with a strong and proven background in Municipal Administration.  The successful applicant must also have good knowledge of Financial Management and Human Resources and be not just a team player, but the team leader. The CAO is responsible to the Mayor and Council and is responsible for the daily administration and coordination of the daily operation of the community services. The Ideal Candidate will possess the following qualifications:
  • A recognized diploma or degree in Municipal Administration or equivalent.
  • Formal Training in Local Government Administration.
  • Human Resource knowledge and skills.
  • A minimum of 3-year experience in supervision.
  • Proven leadership record.
  • Equivalencies will be considered
Requirements:
  • Familiarization with the statutory responsibilities as specified in the Hamlets Act and other related acts of Nunavut.
  • Knowledge of government operations, statutes and, bylaws and policy making.
  • Familiar with computerized accounting systems for Municipalities, Budgeting and Government Funding Programs.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proven ability to work in a cross-cultural setting.
  • Ability to deal with staff in a diplomatic and fair manner.
  • Must be Bondable and submit to a Criminal records check as a prerequisite.
The Municipality of Clyde River offers an excellent starting salary based upon qualifications. The Municipality also provides a Settlement Allowance and subsidized housing.  Also, upon completion of the probationary period the Municipality of Clyde River offers a comprehensive benefit package.  This includes pension, life insurance, performance bonus and Vacation Travel Assistance. The Municipality of Clyde River in Nunavut is looking for an energetic and experienced Director of Finance to take a leadership role in management of the Municipality’s financial affairs. Reporting to the Senior Administrative Officer (SAO), the Director of Finance will oversee the Hamlet’s financial management and human resource activities. This demanding but rewarding position is ideal for a skilled worker who is looking for a challenge. The Director will be also be responsible for providing critical financial leadership to management and Council to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the Municipality. The successful applicant will be strong, confident, professional who is skilled in collaborating with different stakeholders including Council, government agencies and the public; and will assist the SAO in many aspects of municipal operation. SUMMER EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The Hamlet of Clyde River is looking for energetic, enthusiastic and responsible leaders to provide program planning, supervision and direct leadership for participants in the Get Happy Summer Day Camp. Our camp runs weekdays in July and August for children ages 5 to 12.

You will be part of our summer day camp staff and will be leading a group of individual’s ages (5-12) to participate in day camp and group activities for our summer weeks. You will be responsible to teach and facilitate games and learning sessions that are engaging to children. You will be supporting the team in cleaning duties, general maintenance and running the day camp program. You will open / close the facility and providing exceptional service to our children.

Responsibilities: Successful leader applicants will…

  • Work with other leaders and the Day Camp Supervisor to plan, develop, and implement safe, fun, and age-appropriate activities (day-trips, games/sports, arts/crafts), working with weekly themes.
  • Lead, supervise, and instruct campers through daily activities in a respectful, enthusiastic, and inclusive manner.
  • Communicate with parents by answering questions and addressing concerns within their scope of responsibility.
  • Effectively work together with day camp volunteers, other day camp staff, the Day Camp Supervisor and all Recreation Staff at the Hamlet to ensure the efficient operation of the day camp.
  • Provide administrative support to the Day Camp Manager.
  • Qualifications & Experience:

Successful leader applicants MUST have…

  • Experience working with children ages 5-12 in educational, arts, sports or recreational setting.
  • Experience with age-appropriate activities for school-aged children.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work productively and independently while functioning as part of a team.
  • Respect for the rules and regulations that keep the campers and our Hamlet.

Necessary Conditions for Consideration:

  • Be between 15 and 21 years of age at the start of employment.
  • Have been a full-time student in the 2019 - 2020 academic year and plan to return as a full time student in 2020 - 2021.
  • Be available to work for the entire duration of the camp, including the training period.
  • Provide a current Police Record Check.
